ATLANTA, GA (March 9, 2021) – Atomic-6 is pleased to announce that Ben Willis has joined the company as our Ballistics Consultant. Ben brings his composite materials and manufacturing expertise to our team. He will be assisting us with ballistic research and grant opportunities.

Ben has a Masters of Science and is pursuing his PhD in Materials Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a knowledgeable and passionate research and development materials engineer with 10 years of experience working with polymers, composites, metals & ceramics in academic and professional environments. He has years of experience in composite research focusing on product design, failure analysis & applications development. He also has a broad technical knowledge of thermoplastic and thermoset composites, metals, ceramics, and advanced reinforcing fibers including natural fibers, polymeric fibers, and self-reinforced systems. His successfully completed projects have spanned the following sectors: aerospace, defense, automotive, energy, biomedical, and infrastructure.

He is currently a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), the Society for Experimental Mechanics (SEM), and the Society for Advancement for Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE). He has been published and/or presented at the Composites and Advanced Materials Expo, in the Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, Thermoset Resin Formulator’s Association, SPE 2013, and SAMPE 2012.

“Having Ben join our team happened very organically through a connection from our Chief Science Officer, Hicham Ghossein. He is a true testament to the company’s goal of becoming a multidisciplined manufacturer of composites with the new addition of ballistic capabilities. Atomic-6 is developing composite parts for some extremely critical and harsh environments.” said Trevor Smith, President & CEO of Atomic-6. “I was introduced to Ben a year ago and when he told me he once used composites to stabilize an elephant tusk, I knew he was an out-of-the-box thinker and would be a great addition to the team. When the opportunity to have him join us occurred, I jumped at the chance!”
